Over time your swimming pool and spa surfaces change. Why does this happen? The following are two of the most common causes for this occurrence. The swimming pool and spa surface can become rough as the plaster ages. And calcium nodules can form from cracking or delamination, not from a preventable action.
Swimming pool and spa polishing is a relatively new technique used to restore your pool and spa surface. Polishing is the recommended treatment for both roughness and calcium nodules. The surface then becomes less irritating to your skin and less abrasive to your clothing.

Calcium Nodules:
Calcium growths, nodules or nodes are localized, raised concentrations of calcium carbonate seeping from a crack or pinhole in the plaster. Pinhole cracks are created from structural flexing of the delaminated plaster. Water from the pool penetrates the hole or crack (this occurrence is completely separate from the water chemistry). A nodule will cease growing when a proportional amount of calcium cures out of a tiny crack in the surface. A nodule can be treated, but may continue to reappear until all of the calcium has been exhausted from the source. Therefore, one removal may suffice, although in some case multiple cleanings may be needed.
Draining the pool/spa:
Industry standards suggest that draining should occur on a yearly basis. The amount of water that is to be replenished is dependent upon specific water chemistry parameters. Smaller bodies of water, such as in-ground and above-ground spas, should be drained on a more frequent basis.
Restart service, restart kit, and filter cleaning:
ACT’s restart service includes balancing your water chemistry and cleaning your pool and spa. A restart kit offers all of the chemicals needed to balance your water chemistry yourself, along with detailed instructions. The restart kit varies according to size and needs of your pool or spa. Filter cleanings are also available for both diatomaceous earth (D.E.) and cartridge filters. During our cleaning, ACT will break down the filter, clean the grids or cartridges, and recharge the filter with D.E. if applicable. Prices do not include the replacement of grids, cartridges, o-rings or any additional parts that may be needed.
